Audi Resource - Voice Control

General system description, speech input control unit -J507

The speech input control unit -J507 is built into the radio as a plug-in module. Its voltage supply and interface to the MOST bus are provided via the port in the K-box. The link is made via the electric MOST bus. It is a fully featured control unit with a dedicated MOST address and address word in self-diagnosis. The "Help" command calls up for the driver

the commands which can be executed at the current user operating level. This significantly enhances driving safety as well as ride comfort.

All the input and output signals, as well as the voltage supply, are

provided via the plug-in contacts in the radio. The optical MOST bus is converted into an electrical data bus. This is only possible based on shielding from electromagnetic interference provided by a metal housing, and based on the short transmission distances.

Preconditions for SDS voice control operation:

IThe software versions of the MMI units, especially the head unit and SDS, match.

IThe multi-function steering wheel with the PTT button is fitted.

IThe necessary microphones are fitted, wired and coded on the telephone and the DSP amplifier.

IIf a mobile phone prefitting (telephone transmitter and receiver unit -R36) is additionally fitted in the vehicle, the mobile phone prefitting's voice control must be decoded (see Coding telephone -R36).

No special commissioning measures are required. The HU detects the presence of an SDS in the MOST loops and automatically downloads the necessary program modules (known as GDDs) from the SDS.

This operation is performed the first time the MMI switched on after replacing an SDS module or the HU, after a change of language on the SDS or after an SDS software update, and takes about 2 minutes.

In this time no MMI/SDS functions should be activated - that is, no PTT input, no diagnosis, no switching off the MMI.

Voice control is designed to work with the following subsystems:

The speech input control unit -J507 must be enabled when being replaced and for component protection.

The following functions are also available (see relevant test programs):

- Read measured value block

- Read/erase fault memory

- Control element test as self-test

- Replace control unit

- Deactivate component protection.

Note

The SDS language can only be changed by way of an update CD (control unit flash) or by replacing the voice control.

Interrogating for control unit version
