MMI 2G Video without OEM TV

So you dont have OEM TV, This means you probably dont have several required modules and wiring either. So your first option is whether to install OEM TV first or use aftermarket.

for the US market it is probably not worth doing, you can get an OEM analogue system for between £80 - £200 GBP on ebay, but the cost of the extra wiring and modules will make this expensive considering that at the end of the installation all you have are 2 aux in sockets and a TV you cant watch.

If this is the case for you select the Aftermarket link on the left menu

.

if you already have the largely useless analogue system installed you have 2 AUX in sockets to play with, or if you havent you can install them See here

What can you do with them? - they work as any aux in sockets will do for any equipment. first choose what you want to do.

There are

TVs - Most these days often give you an SD card slot for occasional video as well, you then have the issue of TV Antennas to deal with

Mini media players - Very cheap, with a greater range of codecs available for playing video

Media Players - Inexpensive but require some power protection for the hard disk spin ups etc

DVD - Theres many available, but a bit limited, compared to the mini media player route

Combo's - There are some which have a combination of DVD, SD Card and USB socket video players.

As a final option there are also Aftermarket headrests flooding the market, which have DVD, SD and USB connectivity. this doesnt get video to the front screen without a couple more cables of course.

So all of the options above cannot work unless you have a method of input. we will need to add a method of input that doesnt involve installing expensive OEM equipment.

Fortunately there are some devices that let you do this, Basically they attach themselves in between your front screen and the control unit. you need to simply connect devices to it using the sockets provided, most give you 3 inputs plus a rear camera option if you want to connect it.

To use video you simply hold down a botton on your centre console, and the video will switch in.

one advantage to this method is that the devices you add to it, will be in the front of the cabin, making it slightly easier to get to and control.

you still have one further issue - you need sound, (some of the devices will allow FM sound out, so you would need to selelect the correct FM frequesncy on the radio) but, so far the device we have talked about does not give you any direct sound out, for this there is another similay device that attaches nearby under the dash with again several inputs, so you could also attach an ipod or other music as well.

Both devices together will cost circa £250 GBP,

Audi Multimedia devices

There are several manufactures of these devices, a search for "audi multimedia on ebay" should get you some.
