10% battery meter issue

Issue:

The MMI batery meter constantly shows the battery to be at 10%, sometimes it can go up, but eventually comes down again, causing the MMI to give battery management warnings in the MMI display

In some instances it does actually affect the battery status leading to starting problems, though in most cases the warning is in error and the battery remains fine.

Technical Background

The Battery is discharging due to a closed circuit current problem or software fault in the Battery Energy Manager (BEM) module.

Solution:

Software change of the Energy Manager to

Version 0490 for the A6

Version 0590 for the A8

Resolution

Use vcds to determine the Software version of the Battery Manager

If you have version 0240 you do not need to change it

if the SW version is between 0270 to 0490 a software change is required

You cannot do this with vcds, you need a main dealer or a specialist with the VAS 505X and the relevant cd disk for the upgrade, the dealer can do this with a SVM download from their server using SVMcode D3BEM01

CD Part number is 4E0 906 961 G which must be placed in the VAS505x

To check if the fault is fixed or if the issue still persists after the upgrade (as you have to go to the dealer they will do the below

Check the measured value block 6 in the Energy Manager

Closed circuit history data in block 02xx
