Dynamic headlight range control

General notes

The dynamic headlight range control maintains the angle of inclination of the dipped beam even when the tilt angle of the vehicle changes due to a change in load or as a result of acceleration or braking. Level senders on the front and rear axles respectively signal the compression position of the vehicle. The road speed signal is also processed. The control unit evaluates these signals and operates the headlight range control adjusters when dipped beam is switched on.

Function

The dynamic headlight range control system comprises:

* Control unit for headlight range control -J431

* Vehicle levelling sender, rear left -G76

* Vehicle levelling sender, front left -G78

* Headlight range control motor, left -V48

* Headlight range control motor, right -V49

When a component is replaced the basic setting must be performed.

When the vehicle starts up the required value is set according to the respective vehicle tilt and is transmitted to the headlight range control adjusters, resulting in a one-off adjustment of the headlight angle regardless of whether the dipped beam headlights are switched on.

Thereafter, changes to the required value are only transmitted to the adjusters when the dipped beam headlights are on. If faults occur in the system, the driver is notified by a warning symbol in the central dash panel display.
